ISTD Ballet Dance Classes - Langley School of Dance

Ballet Dance classes are held at St Mary’s Church Hall, St Mary’s Avenue, Bromley, Shortlands, BR2 0PU

Our Ballet dance classes cover a range of grades, from Baby Ballet upwards and take place on a Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Classical Ballet is one of the most important dance disciplines, it not only teaches children a high level of technique encouraging core, strength and flexibility, but it also allows them to be expressive and artistic.

As the students abilities improve they can move up the grades and in classes we focus on technique and ensuring that our students have strong core strength and are able to dance to their full potential.

We follow the ISTD syllabus and offer examinations in Ballet to all children, however these examinations are not compulsory.

Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing - Ballet - Primary - Intermediate

Classical ballet is any of the traditional, formal styles of ballet that exclusively employ classical ballet technique. It is known for its aesthetics and rigorous technique (such as pointe work, turnout of the legs, and high extensions), its flowing, precise movements, and its ethereal qualities.

The ISTD describe ballet as… ‘The roots of Imperial Classical Ballet stem from the early days of the ISTD and the first written syllabus in 1913 which was based on the teaching of the French School from the Paris Opéra. The syllabus has now evolved to promote the English classical style and address the changing needs of Ballet dancers today.’
